How to add a nickname to a contact to make calling easier

People may call less than the other party, but we still use mobile phones to communicate through services such as iMessage. Why not give your contact nickname easier to call and text? It makes them find faster and looks cleaner.

Being able to send messages to “mothers” without having to find your mother’s name doesn’t sound so surprising, but you’ll be surprised how easy it is to skip someone when you don’t usually call someone. They are saved as the name.

This applies to everyone, not just family members. If you have a plumber who uses it often, you can give them a nickname “Plumber” so that you don’t remember who “Bob Tapp” was when you were flooded next time. Being able to provide a contact nickname is a small feature that doesn’t seem like a big deal before you use it. It will even go to Siri.

How to enable nickname

First, we should make sure your iPhone or iPad is set to prefer a nickname that is available. Open Settings and click on “Contacts” to scroll the ball.

Next, tap “Short Name.”

The results screen displays a list of options. Make sure Prefer Nicknames is turned on.
