Researchers speculate that toddlers who use devices mean less time spent doing more productive or educational activities, such as reading, playing, and interacting with friends and family. Previous studies have found that the use of tablets and TVs by preschoolers has tripled between 2013 and 2017.
Dr. Janette Niiranen, a social scientist at the Helsinki Institute of Health and Welfare, Finland, said in an interview with Online Mail: “Our results show that five-year-olds spend much more time on electronic media than professionals suggest.
“High-level use of electronic media, especially program viewing, is related to psychosocial outcomes, while the use of video games is only related to overactivity in the rough model. “Although in daily use, children’s electronic media usage seems to be no problem, in the long run, they do have risks.”
The trial involves analyzing information collected from the Finnish “Children’s Sleep” study, which has been monitoring the health and mental health of fewer than 700 children from the date of birth.
After children reach that age, they will be evaluated for their emotional and behavioral problems. Researchers suggest that children should use electronic devices for less than 60 minutes a day.
