Prepare For ACT Test with Math ETC Learning Center

Today students are aiming for higher and higher scores on the ACT test. This is the only way to beat the competition. When you pick a tutoring center, you think of not just their track record but their ability to make you a better thinker and overall a better learner.

What is the ACT?

There are several colleges today that ask for scores from the ACT or SAT tests. This is a standard aspect of their admissions process. Your college application is going to remain incomplete without this one key component which is your ACT score.

ACT Basics

The ACT test is ideally 2 hrs 55 minutes long and when you add the writing section to it, you are doing an additional 40 minutes on it. The primary sections of the ACT test are:

  •   English
  •   Math
  •   Reading
  •   Science
  •   Writing (optional)

The Maximum Score is 36 and on an average, pupils score a decent 21.

Know More About The ACT

As competition continues to increase, more and more students have begun to take the help of mentors and tutoring centers online and offline to prepare for the ACT. This entrance exam is used by most colleges and universities across the country for the purpose of admissions. It is a multiple-choice exam and students are required to use a pencil to complete the paper. Your ACT test prep will require you to understand that this paper is strictly for the admission process and it is a measure of your readiness for college. It is not a parameter of your overall intelligence and so it is better not to tie any self-esteem issues with it as many students end up doing.

The ACT test is conducted to provide colleges with a common data point that they can use to compare all college applicants. The standardized test scores are reviewed by the college admissions officers alongside the high school GPA of the students. They will also have with them the assessments of the classes taken by the students and their letters of recommendation, information about their extracurricular activities, interviews for the admission, and personal essays. Every college varies in terms of how much value they are going to attach to the ACT scores. It is advised that you work hard for your ACT test prep because it is going to give you more options when paying for and attending college.

When Should You Take The ACT?

You can take the ACT during spring if you are in your junior year or during the fall season when you are in your senior year. You can take this exam in any of the months i.e. February, April, June, July, September, October, and December.

As described earlier it has English, Reading, Math, and Science as its primary sections. Now, these subjects or sections form the standard paper of the ACT but it also includes a 40-minute Writing Test, which is optional. Not all but still several colleges may require you to duly complete this ACT Writing Test as a part of their admission process.

Your Tutoring Center Will Explain To You How The ACT Paper Is Scored

Each section of the ACT carries 36 points. The assessment will be done on the basis of your composite ACT score. An average of the four sections will be taken out on a scale from 1 to 36. In case you decide to take the ACT with Writing Test, a separate score will be taken out on the latter.

Is There A Difference Between The ACT And SAT?

Most colleges and universities ask for scores from either the SAT or ACT. They typically do not favor one over the other so it is a common practice among students to take both the tests. The best way to go about ACT test prep is to take a timed full-length practice test and this will actually apply to the SAT as well. There are a few noticeable differences in the format and structure of the SAT and ACT but how you handle the time and the pressure building upon you is going to determine your success in both the tests.
